On Friday, February 26, members of the Alliance for Quality Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy(AQMIRT)supporting organizations, ASRT, AAPM, ASTRO and ACR, testified at a House Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee hearing on medical radiation. The House members in attendance unanimously voiced support for the Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility and Excellence (CARE) bill and the bill sponsor, Mr. Barrow, made an outstanding case for the CARE bill's enactment. Subcommittee chairman Frank Pallone (D-NJ) commented there may be more hearings on the need for education and certification standards for technical personnel performing, planning, measuring and assessing medical imaging and radiation therapy; and the development of quality standards for medical imaging and radiation therapy facilities. Other witnesses testifying also called for the enactment of the CARE bill. A video stream of the hearing can be viewed at http://energycommerce.house.gov.
This was a major stride in the efforts to see the CARE bill enacted. We encourage each of you to contact your local House of Representatives representative and advocate for the CARE bill. To determine the congressional representative in your area, please visit http://capwiz.com/asrt/dbq/officials/ .
